West of England 4th Section 2017 Champions! We did it again!

We’ve only gone and won again!!

The West of England Regional Championships 2017 at The English Riviera Centre in Torquay were held on the 11th March. We were drawn to play No 1, which is always a bit daunting as it can sometimes be detrimental to the result in that by the time the adjudicators have heard the 21st band in the section they have forgotten about you! And you have to play The National Anthem.

However, on this occasion they didn’t forget about us, we started the section with a bang and we ‘laid down the musical gauntlet’ as reported by 4 Bars Rest, the online Brass Band magazine (and reportedly ‘The world's most visited brass band website’!) and the other 20 bands then had to beat us. They didn’t and we were crowned 4th section West of England Regional Champions for the second year running.

To say we are thrilled is an understatement but it took a lot of hard work from the band and especially from Matthew Green our Musical Director who spent hours and hours working on the piece in his own time to make sure every little detail was brought out in our performance - it certainly paid off.

So September 16th sees us off once again to the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain at Cheltenham Racecourse where we are destined to be favourites to win after our 3rd place there last September. We don’t know yet what the test piece will be, we won’t find that out until well into April, but in the meantime we will be selecting and practicing music for a Summer Concert and a CD recording in early July.

We have vacancies for Front Row Cornet, Trombone and Euphonium but we welcome all players.
