Alice was introduced to brass banding relatively late. She played the violin from the age of six and began playing the cornet as well when she joined the Royal Marines Band Service in 2009.
She has performed various solos in the Royal Albert Hall on the violin and is holds a Masters in Performance from Plymouth University.
Alice has now left the Royal Marine Band service and now follows her new career as a Chartered Accountant.
She first played with Hatherleigh Silver Band in 2016 at the Iddesleigh club which was quite an experience! Since that experience, she has played at every contest and is now a full-time member, playing flugelhorn.
Amalie is one of the younger members of the band, having graduated to Hatherleigh Silver Band through our training band programme in 2022. She also plays with the Okehampton College Little Big Band. Her favourite thing about playing with Hatherleigh Silver Band is going here, there and everywhere! Outside of band she is a keen sports person practicing Taekwondo and playing rugby, representing Launceston and Cornwall.
Karen has been playing since she was 8 years old when she learnt the cornet at primary school. After playing with the orchestra at Okehampton College she joined HSB in 1989. Most seats in the Cornet Section have been occupied by Karen but she has now settled on Solo Horn.
Life is very busy as a Farmer and Financial Adminstrator for an Educational Trust, she is Mum to 3 children and is also a Cub Leader. Hobbies include music, bellringing, eating, drinking, cooking and kids, but can't eat a whole one.
Val started playing at the age of eight years old on cornet with Okehampton Excelsior Silver Band, moving to tenor horn where she played in the solo seat for many years. After being married to Mike Isaac (Eb bass, Hatherleigh) for 24 years, she finally decided to join him in Hatherleigh and is now enjoying a new challenge playing 2nd Tenor Horn.
Val's other hobbies are tennis, walking on Dartmoor and reading.
