Musical Director
Matthew Green

Matthew Green began his musical life at the age of 6, playing piano and cornet. He moved on to the euphonium at the age of ten, and was a founder member of the Newstead youth band in Nottingham.

Matthew chose to pursue a career in music, joining the Royal Marines Band Service at the age of 16 as a Euphonium and Cello player. After completing his training early he joined the Portsmouth band where he travelled all over the world, most notably Dubai, Jamaica and performing to armed forces in Afghanistan. After a short stint in the Scotland band Matthew is currently serving with the band of the Commando Training Centre at Lympstone.

In August 2015 Matthew was offered the chance to take on the role of Musical Director with Hatherleigh Silver Band. Having always been keen to learn the art of conducting he took the position, achieving second place at his first contest just three months later. This success continued into 2016 where Matthew conducted the band at the South West regionals where we secured first place and qualification for the National Finals.

And under his baton, the band has risen through the sections, 2019 sees them competing in the 2nd Section for the first time in the band's history.

Deputy Musical Director
Robin Wonnacott

Robin has been Musical Director of the band for many, many years and is now happy to have handed the baton to Matthew. He still conducts and rehearses the band at when Matt is unavailable. He really enjoys playing again, whether on Percussion or Eb or currently Bb Bass.
