Principle Percussionist
Ben Streeter

Originally from Pulborough, West Sussex, Ben originally started playing the drum kit from an early age whilst a member of the local Town Band in Petworth. He later moved to learning the Bugle and Military Snare Drum and joined the Band of HM Royal Marines as a Bugler in 2011 aged 17.

After passing out from training, Ben served in the Band of HM Royal Marines Collingwood before moving down to Devon to the Commando Training Centre Band in Lympstone. This is when Ben was given the opportunity to pick up percussion again with Hatherleigh Silver Band, performing for the first time in November 2017 at the West of England Areas.

Vix Jevons

By the time we go to National Finals in September 2018, Vix will have been playing with HSB for only a year, having previously played repinique drum for a samba band in Cornwall a few years before. Not only was this of a completely different style, but played without sheet music. It has also been quite a challenge because before that Vix had only played the drum kit and timpani at school some 27 years previous. She has had to relearn reading music as well as playing lots of new percussion instruments, and very quickly, to get in step with this award winning band.

Somewhat of a baptism of fire, Vix’ first time at band was playing bass drum (having never played one before) and marching on the Sunday school parade, then straight into working on the contest piece, for their win a few weeks later at the South West Brass Band Association in Torquay. It has been quite some first year, then going onto to win the section at the regional contest, and rounded off with the national finals in Cheltemham, and very much enjoying being part of a strong percussion section.

Craig Sanders

Craig began playing the drums from the age of five in his local brass band in Essex. In 2011 he joined the Royal Marines Band Service at the age of sixteen and after three years training was awarded the ‘Princes Badge’ awarded to the best overall Musician to pass out within that year. He was drafted to CTCRM in Devon where he achieved his LRSM in Percussion performance and was introduced to Hatherleigh Silver Band.

He has recently graduated from Plymouth University after studying Music Performance which he achieved with First Class Honours.

Craig is currently based with the Royal Marines Band Portsmouth but tries to attend as many Hatherleigh Silver Band rehearsals, concerts and contests after finding out he has long lost family from the town.
