Sophie Winearls

Solo Horn
Karen Squire

Karen has been playing since she was 8 years old when she learnt the cornet at primary school. After playing with the orchestra at Okehampton College she joined HSB in 1989. Most seats in the Cornet Section have been occupied by Karen but she has now settled on Solo Horn.

Life is very busy as a Farmer and Adminstrator at a Primary School, she is Mum to 3 children and is also a Cub Leader. Karen is very active on the band committee and is currently the Treasurer and Librarian.

Hobbies include music, bellringing, eating, drinking, cooking & kids, but cant eat a whole one.

1st Horn
Eleanor Hughes

Eleanor moved to Hatherleigh in 2010 and enjoyed listening to HSB marching past her house. A year later she took up the band's offer of an instrument loan and tuition and joined the band.

She has previously played viola in symphony orchestras and tenor and bari sax in swing, show and student bands and now finds brass banding a lively and fun experience.

She is (mostly) enjoying the challenge of learning to play a brass instrument at a slightly older age...! She is a full time vet too!

2nd Horn

2nd Horn
Jane Holmes

In 2013 Jane reached that time of life when she felt she needed to keep up with her three brass-playing children, so took up the tenor horn and joined the band with no previous experience and received a very warm welcome.

She has always been a fan of brass bands but never imagined she would end up playing in one and is hoping one day to master the technique of marching and playing at the same time!

We have vacancies in the Front Row Cornet section of the band but welcome all players.
